Factors To Identify The Right Renewable Energy System

Renewable energy: As the name suggests it is something that can be used again and again. Hence a source of energy that can be replenished or regenerated again. While non-renewable sources of energy takes years to form what has been used, renewable sources of energy cannot be extinguished. Such sources of energy are sun, wind, water and biomass. Hence these sources of energy are naturally replenishble. These renewable sources of energy can be utilized at a micro level or at macro level for several purposes undertaken/ consumed by the mankind. For the man to decide which source of energy can be best used for specific purpose it is important to acquaint oneself with different types of sources and few purposes.

Types of Sources:
Solar: this is the energy that is derived from the Sun. This is a source of high potential for generation of energy that can be used for heating, irrigiation, generation of electricity. Though the solar energy is the only energy that can be used passively as well as actively for different purposes there is however need to develop on this source to create a long lasting utilization process. This can be done through storage and distributing system of the energy, which requires photovolatic system.
Wind: Wind as the moving force has the potential to be used for several purposes such as irrigation, navigation, electricity generation etc. The energy of the wind can be transferred through wind turbines or wind pumps that convert this wind energy into constant supply of electricity. This can be stored, transferred and well distributed across distances.
Water: Water is known to be carry high amounts of potential when it comes to generation of electricity. But the amount of energy a moving water carries, is the energy which is needed for the generation of electricity. This is referred to as Hydroelectric power and can be used from natural spots or through creation of kinetic energy in the stream of water. The falling water or running water is needed to fall upon the blades of the turbines or pumps which then rotates and generates electricity similar to the wind energy.
Biomass: this comprises wood and wood waste, agricultural waste and residue, energy crops and sometimes land fill gas resources. This is commercially growing steadily since it involves many process like combustion, fermentation, digestion, gasification and liquification for the energy to be used.

Applications: most of these above renewable sources of energy are capable of heating, cooling, irrigation, navigation, generation of electricity is the supreme use to mankind

through natural channels. This requires much processing though, like grids, small individual mechanism, macro level prepation. However, for the generation of energy, a thorough system needs to be set up. The amount of input needed and the output generated maybe of different quantities. Hence, let us understand what are the factors for right renewable energy system

Factors:

  1. Need Assessment: the foremost factor of consideration is to understand, assess the need of the energy system. Whether the system needs to be set up is at one individual level or small village level, large community or state/national level. Based on this assessment, further work would be developed to recognise which energy system can best be practiced.
  2. Resource Abundance: renewable sources can be well utilized to its potential when it is available in abundance. This point is critical to its understanding since its twofold. Firstly abundance refers to the resource that can be used since it should be available in enormous amount. Secondly, legally, there is no barrier to using the resource to its full potential. Hence unhibited use of resource is extremely important factor for right renewable energy system.
  3. Objective Orientation: with many applications instored from renewanle energy syetem, very clear objective for using the resource must be obtained. For at individual levels, not much needs to be done if heating, cooling is concerned. But at macro level, many system needs to be compiled if generation of electricity is concerned, alongwith transmission and needs of the community.
  4. Cost-Analysis: In the initial phase of setting up the right system is costly. A large amount of investment is needed to create the set up which would convert the energy into electricity. Alongwith with conversion, due importance to storage, distribution etc is required. For example, installing grids at macro level is needed whether the supply to small communities or large scale villages. The cost of adapting to turbines, pumps is equally vital. Hence cost benefit analysis is accepted method of evaluating the value of competing energy sources. This is directly also reflect upon the quantity and quality of the resource that will be generated. After installing, the operational costs and maintence cost cant be ignored. Hence, establishing a link with economic status- right renewable source can be determined, though it will be cost effective in the long run.
  5. Distance: this is another important point when choosing for using renewable resource. The proximity of the grid-connected to the customer/service utilization location. The location whether the infrastructure can be set up is directly linked to not only the quality and quantity but also costs.
